In 1977, a gorgeous brunette named Katharine Erwin walked into a room where Don was, two years later her name was Kathy DeFoor. Today, Don and Kathy have two children and five grandchildren. Don answered the call to the ministry in January 1983. From 1983 to 1989, along with his ministerial studies, he worked as an associate pastor and then traveled as an evangelist. In November of 1989, he was called as senior pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Godley, TX.
He was the pastor of this great church for almost eighteen years, at which time; God placed him back in full time evangelism. Don has preached and sang in many different states across the country, ministering to very large congregations, as well as just a few. He is equally at home in any size venue, in front of a microphone or a pulpit.

With his smooth, solid, country voice, Don’s primary focus is Christian Country. However, he does do some pure Southern Gospel also. He spent several years singing Inspirational and Southern Gospel with his family. First, with his daughter and niece as “The DeFoor’s“ from 2005 - 2007. After many concerts and countless miles, the girls decided "full time" was impossible with all their family obligations. So, in Nov. of 2007,  Don formed a new group with his nephew, Cliff Graves. The trio was originally called “The Grace Boys” until March of 2009, when Cliff's wife, Jayme, joined the guys.  With the addition of a lady, a name change was imperative, (it's hard to be called "Boys" with a girl in the mix), so "The DeFoor Trio" was born. On January 1, 2010, Cliff accepted the Music Director position at his home church, so the guys decided to back off to just a few dates a month.

Having sung solo for years prior to singing with any groups, it was only natural for Don to gravitate back to his roots, a solo ministry. Since 1986, he has made four solo recordings; he is currently working on number five. Don does not just sing like a country boy, he is a country boy. He was a tiedown roper in the PRCA from 1997 - 2003. These days, he may make an occasional Rodeo or Team Roping, but mostly enjoys roping at home with his son when he’s not on the road.

If there is one word that best describes Don’s ministry, it would be, heartfelt. Whether sermon or song, it’s all straight from the heart. I Cor. 3:6 says, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”  Don proudly acknowledges that God has called him to an Apollonian ministry, watering the flock. His desire to honor the Saviour is evident by the anointing of the Holy Spirit on this ministry.

The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life the house  of LORD. Isa 38:20

At the age of six, Don was saved at Community Baptist Church in Forest Hills, TX. This godly heritage not only saw him come to Christ, it also prepared him for God’s future calling on his life. At twelve years old, he began singing with his sister and brother in law. During one concert, the Pastor shouted, "Can you sing without him?" He meant the song Without Him, but poor ole Donnie thought his career was over at an early age.
